Alex Ray is the founder if Webster Place

Founder of Webster Place and inspiration for Webster Place Center, Inc. dba Webster Place Recovery Center

Webster Place Recovery Center is housed on the campus of Webster Place. Webster Place is a campus of some 7 building complexes including The Farm at Webster Place, including the Farm House which is home to our resident farmer, Dan, and family as well as The Last Hous of The Road meeting house where meetings are hosted for AA Meetings, Native American Healing Circle, and SMART recovery meetings, Webster Place Recovery Center (which includes Mack Hall, Creighton Hall and The Changing Room (the original chapel), the original Webster Memorial school building, Henry Memorial building, Bartlow Cottage (currently utilitzed by Phoenix Detox), and Daniel Webster Homestead house (which Alex donated back to the state for preservation & restoration.

Alex Ray (a New Hampshire entrepreneur and owner of the Common Man www.thecman.com  family of restaurants) got wind of a large historic property, the Daniel Webster Homestead in Franklin NH, that was in danger of being razed for development. He acquired the property in 2007 with conservation easements and made a commitment to invest in the hope of reaching people who had a desire to overcome alcohol and drug abuse and dependence.
Alex asked friends and people from the recovery community to help and, later in 2007, a board was formed and Webster Place, Inc. was incorporated as a non-profit. The center was opened to service in early 2008.
It is his compassion, investment, and courage that have brought us to a common table, to bring this vision to life -  to grow into a recovery center that will make a difference in the lives of all who come here. Read more.

Alex Ray – Founder
Owner of the Common Man family of restaurants. It's but one of many examples of Ray putting his philosophy about giving back into action.

"I'm not a philanthropist. I'm trying to build a business model that says you can grow a self-sustaining business and do it by giving back," Ray says.

His passion for founding and developing a recovery center for alcoholics and addicts is based in his personal experiences with addiction and the realization that affordable, accessible recovery options were diminishing in the state. The father of two grown children, Alex resides in Ashland, NH.

Alex Rays vision is what materailized in this place of hope and the buildings physical look and feel at Webster Place recovery Center. The renovation inside was a transformation from an institution to a place fo dignity and comfort.

The creativity and rallying of resouces by Alex along with the contageous energy resulted in a place of healing unlinke any other.

The countless volunteers and craftsmen who jumped in to deserve a lot of credit as well for their dedication, committment, resources  and help.

Green - above and beyond the call, Alex invested in a wood chip boiler to add to his committments to conservation of resources. He also re used all that could be reused and or recycled most of the original insides materials while upgrading all of the infrastructure such as plumbing and electrical. This required more work, but resulted in less cost, and saving of natural resources.
